Email consent
Effective 9 August 2026
Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) requires us to be specific about what you are agreeing to before we email you. This page is that specificity.
What you are consenting to
When you submit the signup form, you agree to this:
“I agree to receive rental alert emails from Firstlook and accept the Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. I can unsubscribe from any email.”
What we will send
- Rental alerts — a listing that matches the criteria you set, with our summary of why it matched and a link to the original.
- One confirmation email when you sign up, to check the address is yours.
- Occasional service notices — a material change to these terms, the privacy policy, or the service itself.
What we will not send
- Advertising for anyone else. We do not sell placement and we have no advertisers.
- Your details to landlords, agents, or any third party.
- Daily digests or “re-engagement” email. If nothing matches, you hear nothing.
How often
Only when something matches — which may be several times in a week or not at all for weeks. We check listings roughly every three hours and send at most a few matches at a time.
How to stop
Every email has an unsubscribe link. One click, no login, no confirmation step, no “are you sure”. It takes effect immediately, the link stays valid for at least 60 days after any message, and we honour requests well within the 10 business days the law allows. You can also email [email protected].
Who is sending it
Every email we send identifies us and carries a valid mailing address and contact, as CASL requires:
Firstlook
1255 International Mews, Kelowna, BC, Canada
[email protected]
Our record of your consent
The law puts the burden on us to prove you consented, so when you sign up we record the date and time, your IP address and browser, the page you signed up from, and the exact wording you agreed to. That record is kept for three years after you unsubscribe. See the Privacy policy for detail.
