Renting in Burnaby

Burnaby is where most of Metro Vancouver's new towers actually got built. If you want a recent building with air conditioning and in-suite laundry, there is far more of it here than in Vancouver proper, and usually for less money.

It is a city of distinct town centres rather than one downtown: Metrotown, Brentwood, Lougheed and Edmonds each have their own tower cluster wrapped around a SkyTrain station and a mall.

The trade-off is that a lot of these towers face each other. High floors and the right compass exposure matter more in Burnaby than almost anywhere else in the region.

TransitExpo Line through Metrotown and Edmonds; Millennium Line through Brentwood, Gilmore, Holdom and Lougheed. 20–25 minutes to downtown Vancouver.
Green spaceCentral Park, Deer Lake Park, Burnaby Lake, Confederation Park and Burnaby Mountain.
Housing stockNew concrete high-rise dominates: Concord, Shape, Onni, Polygon and Beedie towers built since 2015. Older 1970s brick walk-ups survive around Metrotown and Edmonds.

Common questions

How fast do apartments in Burnaby get rented?

Well-priced units in Burnaby are usually gone within one to three days of being posted, and the best of them within hours. Being early matters more than being flexible.

Does a listing tell you what floor the apartment is on?

Usually not. Most rental ads in Metro Vancouver leave out the floor and which way the unit faces, even in buildings where those two things decide whether you look at a park or at the tower next door. We read the whole ad and flag what is missing so you know what to ask.

Where do Burnaby rental listings actually get posted?

Plenty of them never reach the big rental portals. Owner-listed units in Burnaby show up on Craigslist and Facebook groups first, and on the aggregators later if at all. We watch the places most renters forget to check.

Is Firstlook free?

Yes. You write the brief and we send the emails, which you can turn off from any message. We do not take a fee from you or from the landlord.
